What It's All About
Come in for a two part workshop and learn how to make socks... so cozy and warm! Treat yourself and become a sock-knitting addict. We'll work on a small sample sock with worsted weight yarn and double pointed needles (dpns) or magic loop (one circular), as you prefer. During this four-hour workshop, you'll knit a short cuff, turn a heel, pick up stitches and work the gusset. We'll end up with a toe grafting lesson, either on your sock or on a sample piece, using the Kitchener Stitch. After class, you can cast on a “real pair” of socks and work them either at a worsted weight or with a fingering weight yarn (we have a pattern for that too). A River City Yarns exclusive sock pattern is included in your registration fee and will be provided in class.
For your sample sock, cast on 32 stitches on your dpns (or circs, as you prefer) and join in the round. Work approximately 4 inches of 2 x 2 ribbing (knit 2, purl 2 - repeat to end of round). Leave your work on your needles and bring to class.
You’ll need a small amount (20g) of worsted weight yarn for your sample sock and 4.0mm needles
Approximately 200m of a worsted weight yarn if you’d like to do another pair of “boot socks” and 4.0mm needles; or
Approximately 400m or a fingering weight yarn and 2.5mm needles if you’d like to try a smaller gauge yarn.
You need to be able to knit in the round on double pointed needles or circulars. We recommend taking the Seamless Hat (Knit in the Round) workshop prior to this workshop if you haven't used dpns/magic loop before.
