Lucy Neatby: Top Down Hat Fun
Lucy Neatby: Top Down Hat Fun
Hats off to Lucy Neatby! Learn how to construct a hat from the top down and size-as-you-go. Lucy will show you how different patterning will make the most of your colourful, variegated yarns and how the use of applied i-cord can accentuate and finish off a hat. Participants in this workshop will also receive a copy of Lucy’s “Breakaway Beanie” pattern.
What It's All About
Join Lucy for this three hour workshop in which you will be able to design your own hat and the best part is: no gauge swatch required! This custom hat class will allow you to “knit to fit” by working from the top down. You’ll start with a little i-cord to give you something to hold on to and begin your hat with four stitches. You’ll learn how to manage increases and Lucy will explain the ratio of increase rounds to help you manage the shape of the crown. You’ll learn how to work an applied i-cord at the top of the crown (an exceedingly clever design technique to use with variegated yarns) and how to make a beautiful and seamless join. The last part of the class will introduce brim options: choose from ribbing, seed stitch, stockinette, reverse stockinette or the lovely linen stitch pattern that Lucy used in her design for River City Yarns: the Breakaway Beanie. Lucy will also show you how to bind off using her Modified Conventional method. Participants in this workshop will be gifted a copy of the Breakaway Beanie pattern on the day of the workshop.
This workshop will take place at River City Yarns and may be held on our mezzanine level which is roomy but only accessible by stairs. If you have any concerns regarding your mobility on the stairs, please contact Cynthia: firstname.lastname@example.org.
