What It's All About

This full day (6 hour) workshop with Lucy Neatby will teach you how to use short rows to shape your garments for a better fit and to create interesting design elements in your knitted fabric. In the morning session, Lucy will introduce short rows and their many applications to better tailor your knitting. You will have an opportunity to discover several methods: unwrapped, wrapped, yarnover and Japanese short rows and compare their merits. You’ll try out short rows in Garter Stitch and have some fun with making a mitered corner. Lucy will show you how short rows can improve fit and finish and allow you to “tailor” your designs to your personal measurements. She’ll also show you how to improve “doorstep” shoulder shaping with short rows.

After lunch, Lucy will show you how to have fun with this technique! You will learn how to use Garter Stitch short rows to create the ultimate practical, comfortable, generic sock heel. You will have the opportunity to use short rows to add ruffled edges, work in the round and shape a sleeve cap. You will discover how to use short rows to knit a circle by working only straight rows (only 2 needles!). Let your imagination lead your knitting needles and play with free style short rows to create fabrics that are flat and three dimensional.

This workshop will take place at the Hilton Doubletree Silverbirch Conference Centre. You will be treated to a hot continental breakfast, buffet lunch and non-stop beverages and snacks all day long (included in your registration fee). You’ll enjoy the retreat atmosphere that the hotel provides while learning new skills.
