Lucy Neatby: Double Knitting
Lucy Neatby: Double Knitting
Learn the double knitting technique to create two sided, knitted fabric. It’s completely reversible! You’ll also learn the amazing “trick” of knitting in the round on straight needles (they said it couldn’t be done) and knitting a tube within a tube. Double up your learning in this full day (6 hour) workshop with Lucy Neatby.
What It's All About
Join Lucy for a full day workshop experimenting with double knit fabrics. This is the Canadian knitter’s version of a “double double”! In this workshop, you’ll have an opportunity to work through a variety of Double Knitting (DK) techniques to produce two-sided fabrics. Make a voyage of discovery, starting with tubular knitting (knitting in the round) on straight needles, then creating tubes within tubes and the options they present. You’ll also learn how to establish positive/negative patterning on a double faced fabric (completely reversible patterning) and work through the structural changes and opportunities this creates. Lucy will share her tips and techniques for manipulating yarns for efficient work. You’ll also have an opportunity to create channels and pockets in your knitted work by switching from DK to single knitting and back again. Other techniques will include a condensed bind off and shaping basics (increasing and decreasing) within DK. You will be completely amazed at the “magic” you and your knitting needles can perform when you unlock the mysteries of working two sides of your project at once.
This workshop will take place at the Hilton Doubletree Silverbirch Conference Centre. You will be treated to a hot continental breakfast, buffet lunch and non-stop beverages and snacks all day long (included in your registration fee). You’ll enjoy the retreat atmosphere that the hotel provides while learning new skills.
