What It's All About

This class is for those who want to learn strategies for knitting lace without the stress of taking on a big shawl project. We’ll teach you how to read a chart, use stitch markers, yarn over both knit-wise and purl-wise, work left- and right-leaning decreases, and finish with a picot bind-off. We’ll guide you through making a left- and right-hand wristlet as well as review mattress stitch and blocking for the final finish. You’ll make a beautiful set of lacy wristlets that Queen Victoria would approve of. Perfect for afternoon tea, especially when your yarn and nail polish are coordinated! These wristlets also make great gifts for brides and bridesmaids. Learn new techniques and skills, make something pretty and gain the confidence you need to tackle bigger projects. We’ll provide a print copy of our free pattern, Queen Vicki’s Wristlets, available for download on Ravelry.

Skill Level:

You can knit and purl, cast on and bind off independently. You can count stitches and rows (for your gauge swatch) and you have followed a pattern to complete at least one project on your own.

Please Bring:

  • 25g (or more) of fingering weight yarn. We recommend choosing a smooth yarn in a solid (or semi solid) colour.

  • Knitting needles required to get gauge (see pre-work instructions). Optional: bring a set of knitting needles one size smaller (0.25mm smaller) if you have them.

  • Your pre-work swatch.

  • 2 locking stitch markers and one wool needle

Prework required:

Use your fingering weight yarn and knitting needles in one of these sizes (3.0mm, 3.25mm, or 3.5mm).

Cast on 30 stitches and work approximately 44 rows (5 inches) in stocking stitch.

Wash/soak your swatch in lukewarm water for 20 minutes. Roll up in a hand towel to remove as much water as possible. Smooth out any wrinkles with your hands and lay flat to dry. Count the number of stitches over 4 inches. If you have more than 24 stitches over 4 inches, repeat the swatch instructions with a needle one size bigger (0.25mm larger). If you have less than 24 stitches, repeat the swatch instructions with a needle one size smaller (0.25mm smaller).

  • A sweet pattern,

  • a lovely finished product, and

  • a great boost in your knitting skills. You'll learn a lot!
