Intermediate Crochet: Amigurumi Ornaments

How cute are these ornaments? Too cute! Ready for some crochet adventure? These beautiful ornaments are great for the holidays but also work for a new baby (mobile, wrist rattle, ball) and can be made bigger for toys and pillows.

What It's All About

We were so inspired by the beautiful crochet patterns of local, Edmonton designer, Stephanie Lau. Stephanie's Teddy Ornaments caught our attention and we thought it would make a great workshop for our Crochet 101 students. In this class, you'll follow a pattern, make a "magic ring", learn about crocheting in the round, using markers, changing colours, attaching safety eyes, stuffing and adding features with embroidery and sewing.

We'll provide all the materials for your first ornament: yarn, safety eyes, felt, embroidery floss, stuffing and Stephanie's pattern for four ornaments: koala, panda, brown bear and bunny. If you love them as much as we do, you'll want to check out other patterns by Stephanie. You can visit her blog here: All About Ami (Ami = Amigurumi).

Skill Level

This class has been designed for graduates of our Crochet 101 workshop. If you haven't been through our program, you can still take this class. You need to know how to work the basic crochet stitches: slip stitch, single-, double-, half-double- and triple-crochet. You have completed at least one project on your own in crochet, following a pattern.

Please bring:

  • 2.0 mm Amour crochet hook (we recommend a hook with a nice handle... it's just easier on your hands)

  • 4 hours of instruction. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly these little balls get done!

  • An Amigurumi Ornament kit (everything you need, except the hook!)

  • The Amigurumi Ornament (paid) pattern by Stephanie Lau.
