What It's All About

In this 2 day workshop, you will learn the skills you need to develop your personal style and make your weavings more unique.  We will cover adding beads in both the warp and weft, how to alter the sett of your loom, and how to approach weaving a specific image.  We will also experiment with creating subtle colour shifts by weaving gradients and turning our looms sideways to experiment with fringe.  Prerequisite: participants need to have taken the previous class, “Weaving on a Handheld Loom” and have purchased one of Kim’s Artisan Looms. You are already comfortable with ‘plain weave’ and how to warp your own loom.  Please come to class with a warped loom and ready to weave!.

Our weaving instructor is Kim McCollum. She is a Studio Arts graduate from Wake Forest University (WFU) in North Carolina.  Kim has been experimenting with weaving and textile arts for the last 4 years and loves sharing the techniques and tools she uses with other creatives!  Kim uses a combination of traditional and modern techniques to create unique woven pieces. When she is not weaving she is painting, making pottery, building furniture, or taking photographs! See Kim’s work at or follow along on instagram @slowlifestudio.
