Foxtrot 4 Day (KAL)
Foxtrot 4 Day (KAL)
The third annual 4 day sweater knit-a-long (KAL) is fast approaching! We’re diving in to play in this sweater fun/madness and we’re up for the challenge! You can do it too! Come on, join us. For more of the KAL story, visit our events page here.
What It's All About
When Barb and Cynthia went to visit Lucinda (Mont Tricot), they learned about the amazing 4 day Sweater Knit-A-Long by Marie Greene (Olive Knits) and we decided, on the spot, that this was something we had to participate in. You should too! It’s always more fun to do things with friends, right?
Marie Greene is an author and knitwear designer who started the 4 Day KAL two years ago and the idea just took off! It’s a great way to get an epic project completed… by taking the step of allocating four days to “just doing it”. Marie has designed a beautiful cardigan, called Foxtrot. That’s the cardi that we’ll all be knitting. The pattern is available for pre-purchase on Ravelry here. You can buy the pattern now, but it won’t arrive in your Ravelry library until June 27th (no casting on early!)
If you’d like to join in the fun but feel you need a little more motivation and maybe a little help, we have set up a KAL Companion tutorial that you might like to join. We’ll start off with a “swatch” party on June 27th and follow up with several tutorial time slots that you can come to, to get a little help with your pattern, ask questions, check gauge or just stay motivated! We’ll finish up with a cast off ceremony on July 18. See below for all the “includes” in this KAL support event. You don’t have to be local to choose this workshop option. We’ll try to connect online with those who may not be able to physically attend.
Intermediate: this sweater is knit from the top down and has some lace detail in it. It’s not hard but you will do better if you can: cast on and bind off, knit and purl with ease (you can tell the difference between a knit stitch and a purl stitch and you can pick up a dropped stitch and put it back on your needle). You are familiar with increases and decreases and you’ve made some yarn overs before. You have followed a pattern to complete two or more projects on your own.
Your Foxtrot Cardigan pattern (either printed or on a tablet/e-reader);
Some of your yarn (one ball that you’re working on and another one just in case);
Your knitting needles. For the first swatch session, try to bring as many needles as you can, in one or two sizes up and down from the main (recommended) size. You may need to make adjustments to “get gauge”.
Your calendar! We’ll have some tutorial dates that you might want to put in your calendar.
an invitation to our swatch party on Thursday, June 27 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm
the option of attending as many of our Foxtrot KAL tutorials as you like (we’ll have a list of tutorial dates and times at the swatch party).
a $10 store credit toward the purchase of your KAL sweater yarn, needles or notions.
an invitation to our KAL closing ceremony on Thursday, July 18 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
