Rowan Knit-Along: Beaded Cushions & Throw by Martin Storey

Join us at River City Yarns as we participate in the latest Knit Along by Rowan Yarns. Featured designer, Martin Storey, will be sharing his inspiration over the summer with the release of four patterns for beautiful squares that you can use to make a throw or cushions (or both)! There is an option for using beads as well.

We have plans to do our version of the Knit-Along squares in some different combinations: Rowan Felted Tweed and Kid Silk Haze (paired together), Rowan Hemp Tweed. And, to keep it simple, we’re going to work on a cushion first.

The shopping list is available on Rowan’s website and it’s simple: 12 balls of Rowan Pure Wool Worsted for the throw and/or 5 balls for a cushion. The squares are all completed in one colour.

If you’d like to consider some of our alternative combinations, here’s what we’re thinking. Amounts are for the cushion only and we’re not planning to put in beads. We recommend that you knit a gauge swatch to find a needle size that gives you a soft fabric without losing stitch definition. We think it’s more important to have a square that delights you than to work specifically to the designer’s gauge. When it comes to throws and cushions, a little bigger or a little smaller isn’t our main focus.

  • Rowan Felted Tweed and Kid Silk Haze. You’ll need 6 balls of Felted Tweed and 5 balls of Kid Silk Haze.

  • Rowan Hemp Tweed. You’ll need 11 balls.

  • Rowan Creative Linen. You’ll need 5 balls.

Pattern Release 1: It's time to start knitting your Beaded Cushion or Throw with Martin Storey. The first release is the Bead Coin Cable Square with the option to embellish using Debbie Abraham's stunning beads. And the link is here.

And there’s a video! Watch Martin introduce Release 1 along with the supporting How To guides.
