When Barb and Cynthia went to visit Lucinda (Mont Tricot), they learned about the amazing 4 day Sweater Knit-A-Long by Marie Greene (Olive Knits) and it was decided, on the spot, that this was something we had to participate in. You should too! It’s always more fun to do things with friends, right?
Marie Greene is an author and knitwear designer who started the 4 Day KAL two years ago and the idea just took off! It’s a great way to get an epic project completed… by taking the step of allocating four days to “just doing it”. Marie has designed a beautiful cardigan, called Foxtrot. That’s the cardi that we’ll all be knitting. The pattern is available for pre-purchase on Ravelry here. You can buy the pattern now, but it won’t arrive in your Ravelry library until June 27th (no casting on early!)
The official start of the 4 Day KAL is July 4 and the official last day is July 18. River City Yarns will kick off our KAL a few days early on June 27 (because we have a special guest star coming to visit at the same time). You pick four days or more, if you have them within that timeframe to work on the Foxtrot Cardigan and together, we motivate and help each other to start, and finish, this fabulous project. We’ll organize a completion party on Thursday, July 18 for all RCY participants.
Here are a few reasons why you should join in:
Whether this is your first sweater or your 50th, you’ll learn something new.
There are no button holes! (but there is a fun option for buttoning it without button holes!!)
There is a fun, unique neckline and a fun and easy option for the wavy front bands
The cardi is knit top down, in one piece for easy length adjustments to sleeves and cardigan body
This cardi has positive ease, making it a nice fit for a wide range of body sizes and shapes!
We’re doing it with you. And, we’ll help you out!
In fact, Cynthia has set up a KAL tutorial. You can join in (register here) and you’ll get an invite to our opening night “swatching party” and access to helpful tutorials throughout the KAL. We’ll finish off with a completion night and take photos of all our completed cardigans. If you’re unable to come to the shop for help, register anyway… Cynthia and Barb will help you out by email, phone and video conference. Come and be a part of the group!
