This uniquely Canadian take on two colour stranded knitting will have you working with yarn in both hands and learning how to incorporate your own geometric or pictorial motifs. You will also learn to knit and graft a traditional shawl collar, and practice the unique Cowichan shoulder join. This cardigan will have you sew in a zipper or put in a button band. And, it will be your own design – a sweater "from scratch". In order to complete this sweater (and all the individual design work involved) you'll be knitting a baby size sweater. When you've completed your first "baby" sweater, you can "upsize" your design to an adult version.
Approximately 600m of a softly spun singles yarn (e.g. Nova Pure Wool Heather, Diamond Luxury Lima, Classic Elite Montera) in three colours and 2–3 sets of knitting needles ranging around 2 sizes smaller than the ball band recommendation. You will also need 4–6 stitch holders, a wool/tapestry needle, graph paper, pencil/pen and 4–5 locking stitch markers.
You've successfully completed more complex projects (e.g. a sweater or socks) that required shaping or reading charts (e.g. lace knitting). You're comfortable working on a variety of needles sizes (2.0mm-15.0mm) and you've knit in the round on both circulars and double pointed needles. You can follow a pattern and learn from a reference book but you prefer to ask questions and you're not concerned by the concepts of "pre-work" and "homework".
*Please note, there is a class "break" (no class scheduled) on Thursday, April 19. It's "catch up" time!
