BLOCKBUSTER: BEGINNER LACE

Workshop Information

Learn to read a chart, knit a selvedge, make yarn-overs (yo), and left- and right-slanting decreases in this introduction to lace knitting. Choose one of these three blocks for your workshop project: Classic Diamond (p.32), Diagonal Block (p.121), Diamonds (p.122). Please decide which square you will work on and cast on the number of stitches required. You may also choose to photocopy your chart so that you can check off rows as you complete them.

Materials Required

A small quantity of yarn (one 50g ball or less) and knitting needles appropriate for the gauge of the yarn. A copy of Nicky Epstein's Knitting Block by Block book is a required text for this workshop.

Skill Level 2: Experienced

You can cast on and cast off, knit and purl and you have followed a pattern to finish a project. You can recognize mistakes and have attempted to fix them. You own a knitting reference book and you've used it to figure out a stitch or abbreviation. You've completed several projects and now you're ready to change colours, make holes on purpose and create textured patterns.
