What It's All About

Interested in designing and weaving your own cloth? This class will cover everything you need to know to start weaving beautiful handwoven fabrics on a rigid heddle loom.  Participants will learn the basics of making a warp and warping the loom with tips for keeping selvedges and tension even.  Several different weave structures will be explored while students create a unique sampler scarf.  Leave this class with a beautiful handwoven scarf and the skills you need to make place mats, shawls, clothing and more!

Skill Level

Novice weavers: it's helpful if you've played around with your rigid heddle loom and maybe woven something but it's not a requirement. 

Please bring:

  • your rigid heddle loom. Don't have one? No problem - contact RCY. We've got a few rigid heddle looms for purchase. Not sure what a rigid heddle loom is? Contact cynthia@rivercityyarns.com and she'll make sure you have the right equipment.
  • Yarn: your warp yarn is provided! You just need to pick a colour: White, Natural, Black, Navy, Red, Green, Gold, Light Grey, Medium Grey or Charcoal Grey. Then pack five or more skeins of yarn from your stash: any weight, any fibre content, any colour. It's a sampler scarf so bring yarns you'd like to sample!

Includes:

  • An entire weekend of weaving! (Warning: you may not want to go home).
  • An Epic yarn for warping.

Other important info that you should know about...

  • You have to pay the registration fee in advance to hold your seat. You can pay online or call the store at 780-477-9276 to make a payment over the phone.

  • Cancellations? We know you have every intention of coming, but life happens, so we need a cancellation policy, and this is it: 

    • If you cancel 7 days (or more) prior to your workshop date, we will refund your registration fee less a $25 administration & service fee. 
    • No refunds will be made if you have to cancel less than 7 days before your class is scheduled to begin. If you are unable to attend, you may ask a friend to take your place.
    • If minimum enrolment is not met we reserve the right to cancel the class. A full refund of your registration fee will be given should this situation arise. 
  • We strive to keep the cost of workshops low, so we ask that your supplies be purchased from River City Yarns.
