Wool Wine & Wheels 2008
We are very excited to be able to offer another trip to Jasper National Park aboard Via Rail. The train will leave Saturday, November 1 and return Monday, November 3rd, 2008. There will be a meet and greet the evening of Friday, October 31st (Halloween night!) at River City Yarns store in Edmonton. Prizes for the best costumes! Click here for a printable poster.

Workshops will be held in the Point Cabin at Jasper Park Lodge – it’s our favorite cabin with lots of room to knit and socialize. Want to stay in the cabin this year? There are some rooms available in Point Cabin – just ask for details when you book.
Prices start at $699 per person and includes the train trip, accommodation at Jasper Park Lodge, some meals at the lodge and on the train, time with guest designer and socializing with friends.
This year the designer will be Canada’s own, Fiona Ellis. Barb met Fiona last year at the Madrona Fiber Art Festival in Tacoma Washington, where she took a course on finishing techniques. “I loved Fiona’s teaching style and her designs – she showed us that small details like cables, color or edgings can make your knitting fresh and inspirational!”
* Fiona Ellis has been designing commercially since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Knitwear Design from DeMontfort University, England in 1993.
* She began knitting at an early age after being taught by her grandmother. She loved to experiment, consequently her dolls were the best dressed in the neighbourhood, even if some of them were doomed to be fashion victims or ridiculed for their daring outfits. Her original designs have been sold to fashion houses in New York, London & Paris for mass-market production. Widely published in premier knitting magazines her patterns are also carried by many leading yarn companies.
* She is author of Inspired Cable Knits, Inspired Fair Isle Knits and Knitspiration Journal (all published by Potter Craft).
We carry Fiona's books at River City Yarns as well.
* On a personal note Fiona believes passionately that self-expression through art/craft is an essential part of a healthy balanced life. Aside from her professional interest in fashion she enjoys watercolor painting, creative writing and has been practicing yoga for almost as long as she has been designing.

Jane Ellison Visit: October 4, 2007
We were very lucky to have a visit from UK designer Jane Ellison. Jane signed books in the store and ran a small workshop on knitting the Carlos Gloves from her Mirasol Collection pattern book. For details and pictures, click here.
