Come by the store and meet Samantha from Trailhead Yarns, a Canadian company specializing in hand dyed yarns for all those who would like a vegan option. Trailhead Yarns specializes in dyeing yarns that are plant based and include cotton, linen, and tencel. Sam and (helper) Carole will be "popping by" and "popping up" at River City Yarns to share with us the beauty of these no wool alternatives and offering you the opportunity to purchase directly from the dyer.

Thursday, September 13:

5:00 - 7:00 pm: Knit Night with Trailhead Yarns. Come out to our weekly Knit/Cro Social Night and meet Sam and Carole from Trailhead Yarns. You can pick up a beautiful kit for a lovely vest and enjoy a "get started session", using vegan yarns hand-dyed by Sam. Barb and Cynthia will be filming parts of the evening for a future RCY YouTube video as well, so join in with questions for our lovely and talented guests. For details, and to register, click here.

Friday, September 14:

1:00 pm - 4:30 pm: meet and greet the Trailhead Yarns team on the floor, squeeze the yarn and have a look at the trunk show.

2:00 pm: Barb will demo a few tricks for pre-softening a skein of linen prior to working with it and explain why a hand wound centre-pull ball is often the best way to control your linen yarn.

5:00 - 7:00 pmJoin us for a yarn tasting event (registration fee: $20) where you'll get a chance to sample four of Trailhead's yarn bases and ask questions about dyeing on cellulose (vegetable) fibres. Sam will show you samples of each of the yarn bases knit into projects and talk to you about the properties of each of these fibres and what types of projects she recommends for each of them. Click here for more details and to register.
