Designer Patterns by Ilga Leja
Ilga Leja is a Canadian designer with a wonderful eye for patterns and colour. She uses Canadian made, handpainted yarns in all of her designs, including Woolie Silk by Fleece Artist and Celestial Merino by Lucy Neatby. | In Puccini’s beautiful opera La Bohème, Musetta’s shawl is a study in flirtation. This lovely shawl is worked from the long bottom edge to the top edge in a panelled lace pattern. The ruffles, bordering each side, mimic and resolve the main pattern.
Shown in Fleece Artist Woolie Silk 3-Ply (65% wool, 35% silk), colour: “Straw”.

As she waits for her lover, Mandryka, Arabella is wrapped in her airy stole with the undulating leafy design. It is worked in two identical sections, each worked from the bottom border towards the midpoint.

Manon wears a curved wrap which is as luxurious as an ermine stole. Through a series of short rows, the wrap is worked, in ruching, down from the long, upper edge. Its unique shaping allows it to be worn as a shawl, a wrap or a shrug.
